New cold chain facility for Vietnam By Dominique Patton(http://www.ap-foodtechnology.com/news/ng.asp?n=71508-new-cold-chain)  23/10/2006- Malaysian cold storage provider Haisan Resources has invested some US$3.6 million to set up a temperature-controlled logistics facility in southern Vietnam.
The company’s subsidiary, IGLO International, had previously bought 90,000sq metres of land in Viet Hoa Industrial Park of Ho Chi Minh City. The land will be used to build a multiple temperature-controlled facility (MTCF) targeted to start operation by the first quarter of 2007. "Vietnam has seen an increasing demand for high quality food products especially the perishable food segment, stimulated by the rapid economic growth over the last few years," group president and chief executive officer Ong Chin Yet said in a statement. "Vietnam currently does not have sufficient quality TCL facilities to cater for the influx of food products that require such services. The increasing volume of production and trade in the area of perishable products from internal and external factors are expected to increase the demand for cold rooms by next year due to the impending ascension of Vietnam into the WTO," added Ong. The expansion into Vietnam is part of Haisan's strategy to be a regional integrated cold chain logistics operator. The group also has operations in Malaysia, China and the Philippines. The new Vietnam facility will be equipped with Haisan's own warehouse management system and temperature-control systems that can handle a wide variety of ambient-controlled requirements as well as chilled and frozen food products.
